I?m not playing here. Calls to use more grain for ethanol are being made by Obama, and the California bread basket of the world is still being denied water, which has already had a huge effect on available produce. Much is being imported from other countries and fuel is also on the rise. Green vegetables and some nuts and fruits are extremely inflated right now, and it?s just going to get worse.

Food ?safety? regulations make it harder for small farms to bring food to market, and even people who used to grow food to share with the poor are being shut down. Food stamp numbers have exploded.

Every little bit of food helps. People are actually starving who don?t have the money to pay more, as rice and wheat and corn have doubled recently, but their earnings if anything have been going down. That?s part of the anger out there in the world that?s got people ready to risk their lives in the streets. They are watching their families go hungry and they are pissed, of course. It?s playing into the hands of people who want the world in turmoil so they can grab assets and power. This is the kind of thing that?s planned by the extremely wealthy in the world, and they get richer, and those who are not extremely rich loose. They gain not only wealth but power.

But anyway it doesn?t take much to grow greens or tomatoes or whatever, beans are good in a small area because you can use climbing beans. They can also be dried and reconstituted without much loss in nutrition or taste.

People used to grow ?victory gardens? it would probably be a good idea to do so again. You can grow composting tomato buckets and nutritious leafy greens & herbs on a balcony or in front of a window. If it doesn?t really do that much for you, it may make all the difference for some people in other countries if the demand for their food is less. Trust me on this, any relief for them is big to them now.

I?d also suggest storing up some basics like rice, salt, sugar, wheat, oil, canned and dried food, or whatever you use. It wouldn?t hurt to store up some fuel like propane or wood if you can use it and a little stove you can vent out the window of even an apartment. And it wouldn?t hurt to store up enough water to get you by for some time.

You may think I?ve lost it, but things could get pretty hard before long. Putting a bit of money into basic needs to store up may be a much better investment than gold for some. Try to buy a bottle of water with gold when no one has much water. Gold won?t get you a thing in times like those.

The Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks, also known as the Madrid Protocol, is an international trademark treaty that allows for residents of any member country to file a single international trademark application. The treaty only covers trademark registration, however, and does not guarantee the trademark?s effectiveness across the variety of member states? legal systems. The primary advantage of the Madrid Protocol is that an applicant can file a single form with one set of fees through a single office.

As of November 2, 2003, the Madrid Protocol took effect in the United States. Under the Madrid Protocol, U.S. trademark owners can submit international applications to the International Bureau in Geneva, Switzerland through the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Foreign parties can also seek protection for their trademarks in the United States. Through the Madrid Protocol, a trademark holder can register their trademark in 84 member countries or contracting parties.

To submit an application through the USPTO, a trademark holder must file an application or register a trademark with the Office and have a domicile or industrial or commercial establishment in the United States. The international application requires a basic or U.S. application, and both the mark itself and the owner must be the same for the international and U.S. filings. An international application can cover several U.S. trademarks, provided they meet the requirement for uniform marks and owner. All applications need to be filed through the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office in order to certify that U.S. and international applications contain the same information. All international applications can be filed electronically via the USPTO?s website or on paper using the official form from the International Bureau of the World Intellectual Property Organization.

The USPTO?s certification is only to ensure that the international application is grounded in a U.S. application or registration. Any international application is still reviewed for Madrid Protocol standards by the International Bureau. Once the International Bureau confirms a trademark, it will be published in the WIPO Gazette of International Marks and a certificate will be sent to the trademark holder. ?Once the International Bureau registers the trademark, they notify each Contracting Party identified in the application and request protection in that country. These countries will then decide whether the trademark is eligible for protection under their laws. If a trademark meets their requirements, then it will receive protection.

International registration lasts for a 10 year period from the date of registration, and registration can be renewed in 10-year increments through the International Bureau. The trademark?s record may also be edited more easily in cases where the owner changes. In addition, a trademark holder may extend protection to further countries more easily through the International Bureau.

Registration fees can range from $750 for a black and white trademark in one country to over $17000 for a full color trademark in every member country. Since the International Bureau is located in Geneva, the international filing fees must be paid in Swiss Francs.

If a U.S. registration is refused, withdrawn, cancelled, or restricted within the first five years of registration, the International Bureau will cancel the international registration. After the first five years, as long as the U.S. application?s failure is not grounded in the first five years of registration, the international registration will be treated separate from the U.S. application.

David Siegel, the Florida real estate mogul behind timeshare company Westgate Resorts, claims that he was "personally responsible" for George W. Bush's 2000 presidential victory. When the subject comes up in a newly released documentary, Siegel declines to elaborate, stating, "it may not necessarily have been legal."

Wow.

Siegel's comments appear in director Lauren Greenfield's documentary "The Queen of Versailles."

The film follows Siegel and his wife, Jackie, as they set out to construct a giant 90,000-square-foot mansion in Florida modeled after Versailles. The ambitious building project was put on hold following the 2008 financial crisis. Magnolia Pictures, the film's distributor, did not make the video clip of Siegel's comments available to HuffPost.

The film quickly moves on from Siegel's election-related statements, but multiple photos of Siegel and Bush are shown throughout the movie.

HuffPost reached out to Greenfield's camp for more information, but she was unavailable for comment.

Apparently, Siegel was not happy with the way he and his family were portrayed in the documentary. According to Reuters, "On the eve of the film's premiere at Sundance, Siegel filed a defamation lawsuit over the portrayal of his business, which continues to wind its way through federal court."

Orlando Magazine profiled Siegel in 2009, and although he was equally adamant about his role in the election of Bush, Siegel told that publication, "It was legal ... I got [Bush] 2,000 votes in Florida."

There is some good news for the timeshare titan: He claims to be restarting construction on his dream home due to rebounding business. Siegel tells Reuters that Westgate is currently "the most profitable we've ever been."

Manchester United sets IPO terms

(Reuters) - English soccer team Manchester United set the terms for its U.S. initial public offering on Monday saying it will offer 16.67 million shares at between $16 and $20 each, which values the club at $3.3 billion at the top of the range.

Manchester United has been struggling with a hefty debt burden ever since being acquired by the family of Florida-based businessman Malcolm Glazer and his family in 2005.

The club and the Glazers each will be selling half the IPO shares in an offering that will raise as much as $333 million. The club's proceeds from the IPO will be used to reduce its debt. The Glazers will remain in a dominant position after the offering with 89.8 percent of the Combined class A and B shares.

The IPO may be a tough sell in the United States given the lack of U.S. publicly traded sports teams to compare Manchester United against and given that many Americans don't regard soccer as a top sport.

The company's latest financials may also give investors pause. Revenue for the fiscal year 2012 is expected to 315 million pounds to 320 million pounds ($495 million to $503 million), down 3 to 5 percent from the previous year, the company said in its S-1.

Operating expenses also increased 4 to 5 percent as a result of a jump in player and staff compensation.

Shares are highly priced based on earnings of a range of 21 million to 23 million pounds in the year just ended. This makes the price to earnings ratio based on both A and B shares at a very steep 95 times.

"It could be challenging to justify such strong multiples for a company that needs to spend a lot of money to generate success," Ken Perkins, an analyst with Morningstar said. "Even if their performance is good their price may be a bit high."

The details of the sale were announced just as it was revealed that the club had signed a 7-year sponsorship deal with General Motors Co to have the Chevrolet brand on their shirts starting in 2014. The deal is worth roughly $600 million, Reuters reported.

The club had filed to raise up to $100 million in its IPO of Class A stock earlier this month.

Manchester's United will kick off a two-week investor roadshow on Wednesday, with stops expected in the United States, Europe and Asia, according to a source familiar with the company's plans who was not authorized to speak publicly about them.

The roadshow stops will be done concurrently, with two separate management teams covering different geographies. One will be responsible for meeting with investors in the United States and the other with investors in Europe and Asia. Pricing is expected on August 9.

The team chose to list in the United States after scrapping listings in Singapore and Hong Kong. It had originally looked to raise as much as $1 billion in Singapore.

"I'm a little concerned that the offering couldn't be done initially and now all of a sudden it has a heartbeat," said David Menlow, president of IPO Financial which tracks IPOs. "The mentality with sports teams is that people like owning a piece as a trophy investment, but will it live up to expectations?"

The Glazers also own the U.S. football team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They will retain control after the sale because their Class B shares will have 10 times the voting power of average investors' Class A shares.

Jefferies Group Inc is the lead book runner in the syndicate, which also includes Credit Suisse, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank. The company will list on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker "MANU."

Morgan Stanley bowed out of bringing the deal to market when Manchester United decided to list in the United States.

Isabella & Max Rooms: Oh, Which House Would You Pick?!

Sunday evening I attended this years Street of Dreams in Portland, arriving as late in the day as I thought I could get away with (with family in tow) in attempt to avoid the crowds. My husband I thought it'd be fun to take in the event as a date, but the kids would have none of that. They love a good house tour (fantasy house hunt) as much as their mother...oh, they do me proud!

Get ready for one long post! Today I'm showing you two houses, one my family voted as the one they would buy, if we were looking (and looking in this price range) and the other I selected. I couldn't do a thing to convince them to change their minds, but in the end I think they actually got me over to their side.?

House 1:

This house surprised me, looking at the floor plan before the show I wasn't that taken with it. But once inside, it proved to be amazingly cozy and welcoming with an absolutely fantastic flow. A staircase near the?master and a second on the other side of the first floor off the kitchen made moving through the rooms a breeze with everything very accessible. And then there were the details. Millwork, and more fabulous millwork, lighting from Restoration Hardware throughout and a soothing and sophisticated ?color palette of whites, creams and grays.

The barrel vaulted ceiling had me at first glance into this home, which paid a lot of attention to its architectural details throughout.

A hallway is not left to be simply a passageway. From below...

The kitchen was not over the top, but beautiful with classic detailing.

An outdoor space off a studio looking down to the covered entertaining area off the kitchen.

The master suite was striking with a checkerboard grasscloth on the headboard wall, and a stunning bathroom beyond.

A tub tucked perfectly into a little nook.

And it seems a washer and dryer are all the rage in master walk-in closets.

Leaving the master, turning to the right was the staircase to the upper floor. I loved the floor tile and the abundance of paneled walls.

Details add up, a recessed area at the top of the stairs to feature a piece of artwork.

Upstairs bath, classic and timeless.

The upstairs family room slash media room featured a curved wall of windows, a beamed ceiling...

gorgeous bar...

...and stairs leading back down to the kitchen.

Like I said, this floorplan was fantastic, making the home feel cozy and?livable.

And back out the front door where a cluster of fixtures made quite the statement.?

I didn't want to leave.

House 2:

Now this was the house that looked great on paper, I simply adored the placement of the pantry, butler's pantry and mudroom with pass through to the pantry. How brilliant is that??

Somehow, despite taking hundreds of photos, I didn't end up with a great shot of the exterior of house two.

Upon entering there was a handsome studio with plank flooring and grasscloth walls.

But straight ahead was the one of the best features of this home, the family room opening up to the outdoor entertaining area...

...which naturally was covered. It's Oregon after all, we want to be outdoors more than the couple of months a year it doesn't rain!

Off the outdoor area, adjacent to the family room was the dining room, separated but open to the kitchen with a pass through. Loved this.

But on the other side of the pantry wall sat the mudroom with a pass through for groceries...

...just off the garage. Isn't this just the best space planning, this would be sooooo convenient!

The master was not my favorite room, but I liked the bathroom.?

Broken into a few smaller spaces it had a cozy feel, and I liked the brown tile.

The closet? Wow. It went on forever...

...complete with washer and dryer.

And back to the kitchen, such a fantastic space in this house!

And if you didn't guess, I was wild over the look and feel of the first house. It simply had an elegant and chic look which was special. But my family was crazy over house two with it's main floor living spaces and access to the backyard...so in the end I had to agree with them. If we were really house hunting we'd be moving into house number two!

And can you believe there were FIVE more homes?!?

One including the cutest little cottage in the backyard of a Tudor style home. More later in the week!
