Anti-incumbent fever scarcely in evidence

(AP) ? Anti-incumbent fever is scarcely in evidence in the 2012 congressional primaries, despite costly efforts by conservatives to remake the Republican Party and this week's defeat of a Texas Democrat ousted after eight terms in office.

Rep. Silvestre Reyes' loss Tuesday night in an El Paso-centered district made him the seventh lawmaker of either party to fall in a primary for re-election this year. Three of the defeats were inevitable ? cases of one incumbent running against another after congressional boundaries were shifted to conform with 2010 Census results.

In the most notable defeat of an incumbent, Republican Sen. Richard Lugar lost to tea party-backed challenger Richard Mourdock in Indiana, although the impact of the upset on the fall campaign remains uncertain.

But hundreds of incumbents have won in the 32 states that have held primaries to date, most of them with ease.

With relatively few forced retirements at the polls so far, officials in outside groups cite other evidence of electoral success.

They cheered when tea party-backed Ted Cruz qualified for a runoff against heavily favored Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in a Senate Republican campaign in Texas, claimed credit when veteran Rep. Spencer Bachus, R-Ala., was held to a narrow primary victory and cited the decision of longtime Rep. Dan Burton, R-Ind., to retire as evidence of their impact.

"Congress has a disapproval rating of close to 90 percent in poll after poll. There's an anti-incumbent statement right there," said Curtis Ellis of the Campaign for Primary Accountability, an organization that has been involved in races against about 10 incumbents of both party.

Ellis said his organization seeks to act as an equalizer against the built-in fundraising and other advantages held by incumbents. It spent $240,000 to help Reyes' challenger, Beto O'Rourke, but a $165,000 investment elsewhere in Texas failed to dislodge Republican Rep. Ralph Hall. Nor could it engineer the defeat of Reps. Jesse Jackson Jr., D-Ill., or Jo Bonner, R-Ala.

"It's so hard to find a challenger" in many cases, Ellis said. "It's very difficult to raise the money to do the job right. We beat the bushes looking for real races," he said. "We're not going to spend money for somebody who wears a tin-foil hat, lives in the basement of his mother's house and spends 20 bucks" to challenge a committee chairman.

Some conservatives argue that the public anger that roiled the campaign of 2010 remains a force but has taken on a different form.

"Instead of doing tea party events and protests they are donating money and they are volunteering," said Matt Hoskins of the Senate Conservatives Fund, founded by Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C. "The difference is they are doing less talking this cycle and they're doing more work."

The Club for Growth and the Senate Conservatives' Fund both backed Cruz in the contested Republican Senate primary in Texas, and served notice they plan to help him against Dewhurst in the July run-off.

"Texas Republicans are just beginning to learn the truth about Dewhurst's support for tax increases and government health care, and they are starting to conclude that he's wrong for Texas," said Chris Chocola, president of the Club For Growth, which stresses economic conservatism. Its super PAC spent about $2.5 million to help Cruz, and another arm of the organization helped raise another $750,000 for his campaign account.

But Dewhurst has allies of his own for the run-off, including the Texas Conservatives Fund, which spent $2.3 million on his behalf in the primary. "Ted Cruz a conservative? No Way," says the group's website.

The impact of the primaries so far on the fall campaign is a matter of predictable dispute.

Regardless of the outcome of the primary, Democrats are unlikely to seriously compete for the Senate seat in Texas. They assert that the defeat of establishment candidates in GOP Senate primaries in Nebraska and Indiana will work to their advantage this fall, just as they say Republican divisions helped them win seats and hold control of the Senate in 2010 in Colorado, Nevada and Delaware.

"From Arizona and Missouri and Michigan and Wisconsin, every Republican Senate candidate is claiming the tea party mantle and appealing to the far right-wing fringe of their party, and largely ignoring the independent middle-class voters that are going to decide the election in November," said Matt Canter, spokesman for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

But Texas, Nebraska and Indiana are more reliably Republican states than Delaware, Colorado or Nevada, and Republicans dismiss the talk.

In 2010 "there were times when it was obvious that if one particular candidate were nominated that candidate could not win the general election," said Rob Jesmer, executive director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. "That's not the case this time."

Unlike two years ago, the committee's chairman, Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, has not intervened in primaries where no incumbent was on the ballot, an attempt to avoid antagonizing Republicans who might end up winning the nomination.

Apart from Reyes, the only Democratic incumbents to lose primaries this year are Reps. Jason Altmire and Tim Holden of Pennsylvania and Dennis Kucinich of Ohio.

Kucinich lost to another incumbent, Rep. Marcy Kaptor, while Altmire was defeated by fellow Pennsylvania Rep. Mark Critz.

Not even Matt Cartwright, the lawyer who defeated Holden, cited anti-incumbent anger for his triumph. Assessing his victory on primary night, he said, "It's a combination of things, No. 1, the redistricting, and No. 2, my own core political beliefs are a much better fit for the new district."

Among House Republicans, Rep. Jean Schmidt of Ohio is the only incumbent defeated by an outsider. In Illinois, Rep. Dan Manzullo lost to fellow Rep. Adam Kinzinger.

Large Breed Dogs That Make Great Pets | News, Featured Ads ...

170142278 f28e7238c8 z Large Breed Dogs That Make Great Pets

Large Dog Breeds can make great pets, especially the following breeds:

English Mastiff
If you are looking for a great family dog, the English Mastiff is a great choice as they are very calm and affectionate towards children and protective of owners. They rarely attach intruders they are unfamiliar with, but they will corner them until the owner tells them that the intruder is ok? or not ok! The average life span of an English Mastiff is 10 to 11 years.

Great Dane
For many people Great Danes are a wonderful dog. However, many people tend to be afraid of the Great Dane only because of the size of them. In fact, the Great Dane is the world?s tallest dog! However, it is very important that people learn the health issues and special needs of this large dog breed as they require more attention than most any other breed.

Himalaya Tibetan Mastiffs
The Himalaya Tibetan Mastiffs can make good pets, but they can also be very aggressive. Typically the Asian breed and trained are more aggressive and the western trained are more suitable for domestic pets. The background of prospective dogs should be carefully researched prior to making a commitment, especially as life span is usually 10 to 14 years (which is unusually high for a big dog).

St. Bernard
Many of the larger dogs such as St. Bernard, English Mastiff or the Irish wolfhound are more prone to having health problems over the smaller breeds of dogs. Many times when people go to get a St. Bernard, the health aspect is one thing that is rarely mentioned, but it should be considered and researched. The St. Bernard has an average life span of eight years. This breed is well socialized and is great with children, just watch out for his size around little ones.

Dogue de Bordeaux
is also known as a French Mastiff and is a large dog breed known to be strong, powerful, and also imposing. In fact, in the past they were originally bred for use in dog fighting and as a guard dog. The temperament of the Dogue is balanced and they become very attached to family. A consideration for a family with children to that the average life span of the Dogue de Bordeaux is only six years.

Siberian Husky
A working dog (guard, herd reindeer, pull sleds) that weighs 44 pounds (20 kg) ? 75 pounds (34 kg), and is from Russia. The Chukchi people of the Siberia area breed the Siberian Husky. In the early 1900?s the breed was brought to Alaska as a cold weather working dog during the gold rush. This is one of the oldest breeds as confirmed through DNA testing.

Google's self-driving cars will return to roots, tour California

california-law-passed-google-driverless-cars

Thanks to a new law passed in California, Google's driverless cars might soon be stuck in its traffic with all the other hapless commuters. Although they won't hit the highway yet, like they can in Nevada, the bipartisan bill will allow bureaucrats to craft safety and performance standards -- letting the robotic rigs roll (with licensed minders) in the near future. Joining Hawaii, Florida, Arizona and Oklahoma with similar legislation, the state hopes to reduce carnage on the roads caused by human error, and is backed by Google, the California Highway Patrol and various civic, auto and tech clubs. Of course, given that it was birthed in Google's Mountain View X lab, it's only natural that the autonomous EV should be allowed to roam free on its home turf.

Dodgers roll to 5th straight win

By BOB BAUM

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 1:02 a.m. ET May 22, 2012

PHOENIX (AP) - After two Tommy John elbow surgeries, a 6-1 start to the season is especially sweet to Chris Capuano.

"I couldn't be having any more fun playing the game right now," he said.

Matt Treanor, Andre Ethier and James Loney homered to give Capuano more than enough support and the Los Angeles Dodgers won their fifth straight by beating the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-1 on Monday night.

Capuano (6-1) allowed one run on four hits in six innings, striking out five and walking one.

"He's an outstanding guy, obviously," said Treanor, his catcher. "Anytime somebody, you know how hard they work to get back in the game and get back in the big leagues, to be able to perform at a high level, that's a tribute to him and his work effort. You can't feel nothing but good for him."

Treanor gave the Dodgers left-hander all the runs he needed with his first homer of the season, a two-run shot off Patrick Corbin (2-3) in the second.

"It's funny, when you least expect it, it happens," Treanor said. "I was just trying to stay in the middle part of the field and get the barrel out. I hit it and I really didn't think it was going to leave the ballpark, but I hit it good and it ended up going out."

Ethier's solo home run into the swimming pool area in right-center came off reliever Craig Breslow in the seventh and raised his NL-best RBI total to 38.

Loney added a two-run homer deep into the right-field seats off Bryan Shaw in the eighth. It came one pitch after Justin Sellers' first career triple brought in the Dodgers' fourth run of the night.

The Diamondbacks have lost eight of nine home games and 13 of their last 16. The NL West-leading Dodgers have their third winning streaks of at least five games and are 5-2 since Matt Kemp went on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.

"Right now, it's just momentum," manager Don Mattingly said. "You get momentum, get rolling, then you're playing with a purpose. That's all."

Arizona catcher Miguel Montero sustained what the Diamondbacks termed "a mild right groin strain" when he chased a foul ball to the screen in the sixth. He finished the top of the inning, but was lifted in favor of Henry Blanco when his time to bat came in the bottom of the sixth.

Jerry Sands led off the second with a single. After Ivan De Jesus struck out, Treanor hit the first pitch he saw into the left-field seats and the Dodgers led 2-0.

Capuano was perfect through three innings before Willie Bloomquist led off the fourth with a line shot off the wall in left-center, about a foot below the home run line, for a triple. Aaron Hill followed with an RBI single up the middle to cut the lead to 2-1. Chris Young, in his first home game since returning from the disabled list (bruised right shoulder), singled with two outs to put runners at first and second, but Capuano nabbed Jason Kubel's line drive up the middle, an ice cream cone grab with the ball sticking out of the top of his glove, to end the inning.

"It's more self-defense than anything," Capuano said of the play. "I was just happy that I looked in my glove and I had it."

De Jesus singled off Shaw to lead off the eighth, then scored when Sellers tripled to the gap in right-center. Loney, who entered the game in a double-switch in the seventh, hit his second home run of the season.

Corbin gave up two runs on six hits in 5 1-3 innings, striking out three and walking two.

"Basically that one pitch, a fastball, I just left it up a little bit," he said, referring to Treanor's homer. "I was trying to get ahead with the fastball. I left it up a little bit more than I would like and he put a good swing on it."

Notes: Arizona 3B Josh Bell got the start after being recalled from Triple-A Reno earlier in the day, with the Diamondbacks designating INF Cody Ransom for assignment. Bell was 1 for 3 with two strikeouts and committed an error. ... Capuano broke into the majors with Arizona, going 2-4 with a 4.64 ERA in nine appearances, five as a starter in 2003. ... Capuano's single in the second was his second hit of the season. ... The Dodgers send Aaron Harang (3-2, 3.83 ERA) to the mound and Arizona goes with Trevor Cahill (2-4, 4.01) Tuesday night in the second game of the three-game series.

Well, where to start? I am a 30?s adult, had my fare share of bad luck in relationships but had some good ones too. Been married, divorced the B*** of hell 3 years ago, had a girlfriend a year after and now been flying solo a year since that ended. I am pretty content with my life and how things happened around me. Yet I have a question about a girl that I fell for and her behaviour just does not make sense.

We have known each other for a couple of years, but I would say in the last 6-7 months we became extremely close in friendship. She was flirtatious during this time and in her mid to late 20s. We do live 3 hours by plane apart. BBM during the day, every day, since 6am till 10pm and skype/phone calls some evenings. We were so involved in each other?s life?s it simply became habit. I knew everything of her, down to super personal stuff, even her ?womanly calendar?. (Can it get more personal?)

Long story short, she flew down a couple of times to visit me at the coast. We had great times, adventures, always in each other?s faces and enjoying every moment of it, I truly went out of my way to spoil her rotten. BUT, I realised I am now stuck in the ?friend zone? but managed to control my feelings towards her since she sometimes gave me the impression she is not interested in anything more. She openly admitted to me, and eventually every day, that she considers me as her ?best friend?. I don?t have best friends, only really close ones (and a few) and I did tell her that. Sorry, I don?t believe in that because I can?t place one friend above another. A Friend to me is all or nothing.

I was giving off signals that I really like her more than a friend, gifts, valentines crap, you name it and always great full and accepting but I just didn?t have the goons to tell her. I just never felt the right moment to tell her and I guess I was scare of loosing what we had. She was not like the others, and I never had a real lack in confidence, except this time. Don?t tell me she is so stupid not to sense this? Women are usually sharp at these things, right?

As per ritual she BB?d me early one morning and I obviously responded as usual. She then asked me how I allowed myself to fell in love again after my divorce. I told her it just happens, but pursuing it a matter of personal preference. She then said something that shot right through me. ?I have met someone but why does it feel weird telling you about it??. I thought WOW, here is it now. I let it ripped and tell her is it not because she knows I am into her? She told me she didn?t know I felt like THAT over her and she needs time to think. So I gave her time.

She later responded she don?t want to hurt me and whatnot and that she needs to cut things with me because she does not want to be the person that is responsible for my pain and that she do loves me. I told her short and simple she made her choice clear and I will accept it because she made her mind up and nothing I can say will change that. (not my 1st rejection).

2 days later she send me this massive email praising me, how great I am and adding again she does not want to be the one to hurt me etc. At that moment I could only read ?GUILT? for some reason or another. I thought about it for a while and send her an email back basically saying I wish it didn?t have to end like this and I do care for her but I hope the new fellow will love her and care for her as what she deserves and that I really treasure the time we spend together. I was feeling the hurt then but I knew that?s all I can do and that our friendship is lost. I don?t think she will ever look at me with the same eyes again, so I came to the conclusion time to move on.

She removed me from facebook and BBM (because her reason was not to upset me or something). I let it go and stay my distance. She text me a few days later telling me the same story of her not hurting me etc, I responded ?what?s done is done?. Again 3-4 days later the same time of text again but this time I could read deeper in that message that she actually misses me and I just responded ?I miss you too?. I was in a bike accident and she heard somehow. Text me again on how much I mean to her and that she is just glad I am ok. I just responded ?I will be ok, but thanks alot?. And now a few days later again I received a text saying she is just thinking of me and hope all is ok. I didn?t respond.

I though she is in a committed relationship, is she trying to mindf** me? I am on this website so probably yes. Is this regret of some sort? Or just guilt?

Yes, it is hard to let go, I know I have to but I am just abit confused at the moment.

This sounds quite similar to me...except I'm almost 2 years on from where you're at. I had a friend who was a guy. We were friendly from when I was about 16/17, we worked together for a bit too. Then I moved away, got married and lost touch with everyone from home. Seven years later, I left my then husband and moved home with my 18mth old daughter to start again. One night while moving belongings, I crashed my car. When I put it into the garage to be checked over, I discovered my friend still worked there. So we had a bit of a catch up. He was still with the same girl he was with before I left, and he now had 2 kids; a boy and a girl the same age as mine. Anyway, that was us back in touch again. Shortly after that he lost his job and we ended up workin together again for another of out friends. We got to be great pals again, and I also became great friends with his partner.
Anyway, a couple of years later, they split. I remained good friends to both of them - altho difficult at times. After 6 months - a year he started to let me know he liked me, thought we'd be good together etc. I kept right out of it as we were good friends, and also I thought he was just after me for easiness. Rather than have to actually go out and start dating again. Anyway, another year after that something bad happened in his life and i was sooo worried about him. Checked in on him everyday with visits, phone calls, texts etc. I was in a relationship at this point although not a very good one and it was ending. That kind of has no relevance other than I was out one night with my friends, my boyfriend at the time was also out and I had asked him to let me enjoy my night with the girls. But anyway, it didn't happen, my night got ruined and I found myself on the phone to Bob to come collect me and take me home. The next day the boyfriend was dumped for his exploits. Over the next month or so I began to realise it was always bob who I called to rescue me, from anything - car trouble, men trouble, broken lawnmower cables - and he always came.
Anyway, he was back at me that we'd be good together and I was still telling him no. We had such a strong friendship, which was soooo important to me. And I'm awful at relationships, I couldn't bear to risk wrecking our friendship.
However, one day, listening to Nickelback, if today was your last day, I decided to just go for it! I'd never forgive myself if I never took the chance.
Anyway, that was almost 2 years ago. If you see some of my other posts, you'll know it's not perfect just now. But I'll never give up, I still can't ruin that friendship!

Obviously I don't know what you're friend is thinking. But I can tell you that good friendships sometimes can be too special to risk by turning into a relationship! I still hope every single day that we never muck this up!

Good luck to you

Jaykay:

Sorry to hear this.

I have found that there are woman out there who like to get attention and gifts from men without any intention of having a real relationship with them.

I think this says something about their personality and personally if I were you I would run because it does not say anything nice.

This woman needs male attention to feed her ego, but it was really wrong for her to accept gifts and dinners out, etc. She should have paid her own way on friend's only outings and a Valentine's day gift should definitely not have been accepted or expected by her.

Run.

I disagree with Angel's advice to ask her to stop contacting you. That lets her off the hook and shifts all the emotional burden of the situation from her to you. It may also be an overreaction given the circumstances. If she's feeling guilty about the situation, then an argument can be made that she kind of brought it on herself by stringing you along all this time.

It's common for people in your situation to respond in frustration by telling the other person to go away. The way I see it, we do this out of altruism. We never really think about it in so many words, but this is what's going on in our mind: "I'm already an emotional wreck, so if I tell her to leave me alone, then I have to deal with the cold and bleak knowledge that she'll never contact me again, but at least she'll have the freedom to pursue her new relationships guilt-free. At least one person will come out happy."

But doing this is just a mild form of self-destructive behavior. A time will come when you regret doing this, and at that point your only options will be to lick your wounds and wonder what might have been, or contact her again and risk facing her anger or just ending up right back in the friend zone.

In a nutshell, keep putting the ball back in her court. Because who knows? She might end up doing something with the ball that you haven't even imagined.

JK007----You know its really sad----IMHO---you are the really NICE GUY, the guy that the girl confides in, and wants to be friends with, but never beyond that----your heart is aching, you are in love, and she doesn't even know it----what does she do---she falls for the PUA, the BADBOY, the guy with the line-------how many really, truly nice guys, and girls out there, just get their hearts stomped on-----it is hard to read some of these situations, cuz it is so sad.

1) There is no "Friend zone" (please dont make me explain why)

2) If a female is interested ever (than there exists potential either in present or the future)

3) If she ever liked you and was physically attracted to you and had an emotional attraction, than you have a chance with her. It would be best to remain friends with her if you wish it to potentially happen in the future, and for the meantime drop your interest in her somehow. And find other women it will get better and easier to move on and she could just remain your friend.

4) Her constant contacting you and wishing to have you in her life to me signifies that she is more interested than she led on. However there existed or exists conflicting interests and she cannot make her mind (which is a problem in a way) to throw it all aside and choose you.

5) At the same time her cutting you from her FB contact is very odd and she is expressing guilt in doing that.

I do no not know what to tell you. Some Women are very smart and good when it comes to reading people and if they like you and you show it to them they will not make it a big deal (as some do) and will go along for the ride.

Best of luck

Millions look skyward as rare eclipse crosses Asia

TOKYO (AP) ? Millions of Asians watched as a rare "ring of fire" eclipse crossed their skies early Monday.

The annular eclipse, in which the moon passes in front of the sun leaving only a golden ring around its edges, was visible to wide areas across the continent. It will move across the Pacific and also be seen in parts of the western United States.

In Japan, "eclipse tours" were arranged at schools and parks, on pleasure boats and even private airplanes. Similar events were held in China and Taiwan as well, with skywatchers warned to protect their eyes.

The eclipse was broadcast live on TV in Tokyo, where such an eclipse hasn't been visible since 1839. Japanese TV crews watched from the top of Mount Fuji and even staked out a zoo south of Tokyo to capture the reaction of the chimpanzees ? who didn't seem to notice.

A light rain fell on Tokyo as the eclipse began, but the clouds thinned as it reached its peak, providing near perfect conditions.

"It was a very mysterious sight," said Kaori Sasaki, who joined a crowd in downtown Tokyo to watch event. "I've never seen anything like it."

At the Taipei Astronomical Museum in Taiwan, the spectacle emerged from dark clouds for only about 30 seconds. But the view was nearly perfect against Manila's orange skies.

"It's amazing. We do this for the awe (and) it has not disappointed. I am awed, literally floored," said astronomical hobbyist Garry Andreassen, whose long camera lenses were lined up with those of about 10 other gazers in a downtown Manila park.

Hong Kong skywatchers weren't so lucky.

Several hundred people gathered along the Kowloon waterfront on Hong Kong's famed Victoria Harbor, most of them students or commuters on their way to work. The eclipse was already underway as the sun began to rise, but heavy clouds obstructed the view.

The eclipse will follow a narrow 13,700-kilometer (8,500-mile) path for 3 1/2 hours. The ring phenomenon will last about five minutes, depending on location. People outside the narrow band for prime viewing will see a partial eclipse.

"Ring of Fire" eclipses are not as dramatic as a total eclipse, when the disk of the sun is entirely blocked by the moon. The moon is too far from Earth and appears too small in the sky to blot out the sun completely.

Doctors and education officials have warned of eye injuries from improper viewing. Before the event started, Japan's Education Minister Hirofumi Hirano demonstrated how to use eclipse glasses in a televised news conference.

Police also cautioned against traffic accidents ? warning drivers to keep their eyes on the road.

Velcrom Studios ? Need To Know Product Creation And Successful ...

Product creation and development has been a successful business model for many people. It is important that you have an established motivation level that will keep you going when times get tough. Anyone that is experienced with Internet marketing may have to spend some time getting up to speed with what to do. To help you out, we are going to discuss the steps necessary to do proper product creation and marketing. Calling Men

Most markets are okay with having products sent to them through traditional postal services. Where digitally downloadable products are concerned, however, this is not true. So much depends upon the market and associated demographics. Over time, downloadable products have started to carry a sort of stigma around them. There is, though, some room for maneuvering here, there are things you can do to increase the likelihood that people will accept your product. This is, naturally, one area when you need to be able to do your research carefully and primarily with the members of your market audience. This may not be an issue, but you really do need to steer clear of products in areas that are known to be associated with scams and the like.

You should always think in strategic terms when it comes to product creation. What that entails is looking out ahead into the future. What you really should do is plan for a whole series of products or services whichever suits you the best. It is definitely possible to develop a line of products that actually somehow relate to each other. Lots of people have done this in the history of the internet. And you can probably see that they have made a lot of money doing this. Obviously you don?t have to do this, but even if you just come up with one or two products that relate to your first, it is better for you than simply settling for one. Generac 5734 GP15000E review

You can actually make smaller profits in a small market. You just have to sell a great product that everyone wants. It is possible that you could have a fantastic product, in a huge market, but if there is no demand for it, it won?t sell at all. You need to be able to discern the difference between the ones that will sell, and the ones that will fail. Using Google, and other services, you could advertise and see which ones are popular. The demand for the product can certainly be assessed by advertising this manner. Online shopping portals like Amazon will show you certain metrics that can also allow you to make this determination.

In conclusion, you should have a fairly good idea as to what you need to do to create or develop your own products to sell. You can be as creative as you want to, which makes this very attractive indeed. When you create your product, use different strategies along the way. Keep in mind there is the possibility that you may not succeed, but this is still a fun process to try. But eventually you will find a winner and that will make up for all the failures in the past. Spurs Beat Clippers 96-86 To Take 3-0 Series Lead

LOS ANGELES ? Nothing was going to rattle the calm, cool and collected Spurs. Not even a 24-point deficit.

Tim Duncan scored 19 points, helping engineer a defining 24-0 run in the third quarter, and San Antonio defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 96-86 on Saturday to take a commanding 3-0 lead in their second-round playoff series.

"We didn't plan on being down that much," said Duncan, who at 36 is hungry to win the team's fifth NBA championship and first since 2006-07. "We stuck with it."

Led by Tony Parker's 23 points and his defense on an ailing Chris Paul, the Spurs kept running their plays even as Blake Griffin's early offensive assault buried them in a huge hole. Griffin missed three shots in the first half, when he scored 20 points and carried his team to a 24-point lead despite a left hip injury and a sprained right knee.

"They came out like we expected, very strong. Blake was making crazy shots," Parker said. "We just took our time. It's a long game, a very long game. At halftime, we were very calm."

Griffin had 28 points and 16 rebounds, and reserve Mo Williams added 19 points for the Clippers, who face some daunting NBA history heading into Game 4 on Sunday at Staples Center. No team has rallied from a 3-0 deficit to win a series.

"If we don't play with that sense of urgency, it's not going to be pretty," Griffin said.

The Clippers played a must-win Game 7 in the opening round on the road at Memphis and succeeded.

"We have to keep fighting," Paul said.

Rookie Kawhi Leonard added 14 points and Manu Ginobili 13 to help the top-seeded Spurs win their 17th in a row and improve to 7-0 in the playoffs.

"We all struggled in the first quarter. We didn't feel right out there," said Duncan, who like his teammates, looked to Parker to pick the team up.

"We follow his lead. He stuck with it, made some big shots down the stretch and continued to attack," Duncan said. "He was playing defense really hard and got up into Chris."

Besides Parker, the Spurs threw two other defenders at Paul. He finished with 12 points and 11 assists after two previous sub-par efforts in the series.

"Tony really ran the show well," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "I'd say, `Let's do this' and he said, `No, let's do this,' and we'd do it."

After a quiet first half in which he scored eight points, Duncan helped the Spurs control the third quarter when they outscored Los Angeles 26-8.

The Spurs took their first lead during the 24-0 run on a fadeaway jumper by Duncan, who scored nine points in the outburst that put them ahead for good. Danny Green added seven and Leonard five.

"We kept telling Kawhi and Danny to stay calm," Parker said.

The Clippers' defense completely faltered and they piled up miss after miss on the offensive end.

"When they spread the floor and Tim Duncan runs a high pick-and-roll, it's trouble for a lot of teams," Griffin said. "That's basically what killed us in the third. This is what they do best."

The Clippers scored the final four points of the third, which ended with a turnover by Williams, to trail 69-61 heading into the fourth.

"You knew they were going to make a run. It was just a matter of trying to withstand it," Griffin said. "In the second half, especially the third quarter, we did a poor job of responding.

"I missed some shots I hit in the first half, easy shots."

San Antonio led by 11 points early in the fourth before the Clippers got within seven on consecutive baskets by Williams. Gary Neal hit a 3-pointer to launch a 13-9 spurt, capped by Parker's 3-pointer, that extended the Spurs' lead to 89-78. Paul, so dominant in the final period during the regular season, was limited to four points.

"I felt like we were playing good, but if you know anything about the Spurs, you know they are not going to let up," Paul said. "Everybody knows how explosive the Spurs are, but we just could not get a stop."

Reggie Evans, a defensive spark for the Clippers off the bench, missed 6 of 8 free throws in the final 3:42.

"They play the same whether they're up 20 or down 20," Griffin said of the veteran Spurs. "Their communication and rotations are so good. Offensively, they know exactly what they're going to do in every situation."

The Spurs were 9 of 22 from 3-point range, with Leonard hitting three.

Los Angeles came in 2-1 at home in the playoffs and 24-9 during the regular season. With their red-clad sellout crowd on its feet, the Clippers were still shooting 63 percent midway through the second quarter, when Griffin's one-handed dunk kept them ahead by 20 points.

The Spurs closed the half on a 15-5 spurt, with Parker and Ginobili scoring five each, to trail 53-43 at the break. Griffin missed just three of his 13 shots in the first half, when the Clippers controlled the boards and the paint.

The Clippers opened the game with a rush, outscoring the Spurs 33-11 while shooting 64 percent. Los Angeles ended the first quarter on a 20-2 run, including 14 in a row. Griffin scored 12 points in the spurt, hitting eight straight while the Spurs committed six turnovers and made just five of 20 field goals.

Notes: The Clippers have lost 29 of 33 games against the Spurs dating to Dec. 1, 2003. ... The Clippers have dropped all three games in the series by double digits. ... Devils rally past Rangers, 3-2, tie series, 1-1

(AP) ? The New York Rangers don't like being all even after two games, but they sure are used to it.

For the third straight series, the Eastern Conference's top-seeded team has failed to build on an opening-game win, and now they have yielded home-ice advantage yet again. The Ottawa Senators and Washington Capitals couldn't make the most of it. The New Jersey Devils have other plans.

"We've been in this situation before," Rangers captain Ryan Callahan said after New York's 3-2 loss on Wednesday night. "We just have to go into Jersey and try to get that next game. We can't get down."

The Rangers bounced back with Game 3 wins in both previous rounds. They will get their next chance Saturday in Newark.

Two things New York can probably count on are a close game and another series that goes the distance. The Rangers outlasted the Senators and Capitals in seven games to reach the conference finals for the first time since 1997. Of the Rangers' 16 postseason games, 12 have been decided by one goal.

After posting the best regular-season record in the East, New York is only 9-7 in the playoffs.

"Overall, we just have to be better," goalie Henrik Lundqvist said.

With a two-day break between games, both teams will skip practice on Thursday before getting back on the ice Friday.

The Devils quickly changed the game plan from the opener. Instead of letting the Rangers block their shots, they decided to deflect some themselves. It worked twice. David Clarkson scored a tip-in goal off Adam Henrique's shot 2:31 into the third period as New Jersey rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win.

"It's a very hard building to play in, and 1-1 sounds much better than down 2-0," Devils captain Zach Parise said. "We're happy. We would have liked to have snuck out of here with two wins, but it didn't happen. We'll take 1-1."

Before the game, the Rangers stressed how important it would be to grab a 2-0 lead, which would have been their first two-game edge in this postseason, but then didn't provide the necessary effort to get it done.

"You need to improve as hockey team every game," said succinct and disappointed coach John Tortorella, who declined to say what areas were deficient.

Clarkson built off the momentum created by Ryan Carter's deflected goal late in the second period that tied the game, 2-2. Ilya Kovalchuk had given the Devils a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal in the first. Defenseman Bryce Salvador added two assists, and Martin Brodeur stopped 23 saves for his 108th playoff win.

Clarkson has three goals this postseason, and every one has been a game-winner, including the series-clincher against Philadelphia in Game 5 of the second round.

"Mr. Clutch? I don't know about that," Clarkson said. "I'm going to skate up and down and finish the checks and just bounce off people. It's just a great feeling to be able to contribute. To get a tip on that felt pretty good."

New Jersey had 26 attempted shots blocked in Game 1, 5 more than they got through to Lundqvist. The Devils cut the blocks to 16 on Wednesday and managed to get 27 on goal ? two more than New York.

"That team blocks so many shots," Clarkson said. "It's unbelievable how many. I think we found a way to shoot it and get sticks on it, and definitely that was big for us."

Marc Staal and Chris Kreider scored power-play goals in the second period for the Rangers, who had 24 saves by Lundqvist.

New Jersey got even when Salvador wound up for a shot at the blue line and fired a drive that Carter ? with his back to the net ? brilliantly deflected past Lundqvist with 1:51 left in the second. Marian Gaborik stood up straight in front of Salvador, but didn't drop down as many of his teammates have to try to block the shot. For that, he was pinned to the bench by Tortorella, even through New York's power play in the third.

"On the second goal, I didn't get the puck out, I guess. I don't know. You'll have to ask him," said Gaborik, who returned to the ice with 8:40 remaining as the Rangers pressed to tie.

The Devils kept the pressure on the Rangers at the start of the third and wiped out the good work New York displayed in the second.

"It was a much different reaction when we went down by a goal than it was in the first game," Parise said. "We didn't change the way we played, and I think that was a big difference. We were comfortable with how we were playing. "

After spending much of the first penned in their own end, the Rangers rebounded to erase their early deficit and briefly take the lead thanks to their previously inept power play.

With Alexei Ponikarovsky off for interference, Staal fired a shot that sailed wide of the net and struck the back boards before popping back in front and pinballing into the net off Salvador and Brodeur at 2:23. The goal was originally credited to Derek Stepan, who was in front, but the puck managed to miss him both on the way toward the net and on the bounce back.

"I saw most of the pucks, but the Rangers came out hard," Brodeur said. "They were around me a lot, and there were some bad bounces. It's such a tough place to play sometimes here. There are bad bounces, and the boards are terrible."

Staal nearly netted another moments later when he ripped a drive that Brodeur had to lunge fully to his left to snare with his glove.

Kreider, the rookie from Boston College, scored for the second straight game to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead at 12:19. Anton Stralman let go a shot from above the right circle that ticked Kreider's stick and fluttered past Brodeur for the rookie's fourth goal. He had to wait to get it because it was first given to Stralman before being changed during a commercial break.

But that was hardly the longest delay of the night. Before Kreider's power-play goal, the action was stopped for about eight minutes as arena workers struggled to get the door to the Devils' penalty box opened. Travis Zajac stood patiently as he waited to have a seat in the box. He even managed to laugh as did New Jersey coach Peter DeBoer and the usually stoic and agitated Tortorella.

Zajac, who first was sent to the Rangers' box, stayed in New Jersey's sin bin for only 1:47 before Kreider scored the Rangers' second power-play goal of the night.

New York registered the first six shots of the period before New Jersey had its first about 8 minutes in, but the teams were even at 17 through 40 minutes.

Whether Brodeur was kidding or not about wanting Rangers to be injured by blocking shots, the home team wasn't deterred from getting in front of drives.

"We have to try to get in lanes," Callahan said. "Try to limit their time with the puck. If we do that, they are not going to have time to shoot."

NOTES: The Rangers were 10 for 61 (16.4 percent) on the power play in the postseason before Wednesday. ... The Devils returned defenseman Peter Harrold to the lineup and sat rookie Adam Larsson.
